Up to now I’ve used MAMP to get MySQL and Apache up and running quickly on my mac. I prefer to get under the hood as such when I have the time and set these things up individually. In this post I’ll go through simply installing the MySQL5 package and then build and install Apache2. Read on »

Invaluable Design Tips and Techniques from the Experts

Before and After MagazineAs you know by now, it is my goal to draw attention to as many useful resources for web and graphic designers as I can. Here’s one that just cannot be missed; Before and After Magazine.

It’s available in Print and PDF format for very reasonable prices. We recently subscribed to the current PDF issue for USD$24 which includes about 30 superbly presented and extremely useful articles. You can pay USD$42 for the same in glossy magazine print if you prefer print.

Having read all the articles in this issue so far I’m really impressed. I can’t wait for each new article to come out, as I understand it, they publish a new article bi-weekly (or so). It’s hard to describe the great quality and value of this resource in just words so I recommend you get on over to BAMagazine.com and grab their free downloads, read them, be happy and then subscribe.

There are very few services that I could be bothered to get the credit out for but Before and After Magazine deserves every penny they get.

CSS Help at it’s Best!

I found something great today : http://www.dezwozhere.com/links.html

This is one of those links that will sit at the top of your CSS bookmarks forever more. As a developer there are always little quirks you come up against and you need a good reference to get them ironed out. For students this is invaluable. I don’t think I’ll be looking any further than this suberb collection of links, guides, books, tutorials, layouts, tips and techniques.

Folks it doesn’t get any better than this. To quote the author of this outstanding CSS resource, these are “Links that will save you from an anuerism…”.

Here’s a bit about the author of the site:

Andrew Fernandez, known to his friends and peers as dez, started collecting these links in 2003 as a resource for co-workers and himself. Since then this page has been widely linked to and visited by designers, developers and others wanting to learn about web standards. Dez took a break in 2005 due to a demanding contract job, managing a company for an ongoing client. 2006 sees dez once again back online and looking to update this page – a lot has happened in a year. BTW if you are a Melbourne based small business or an individual looking for a marketing savvy communications professional please visit andrewfernandez.com.
